Fly-tipping prosecution for Caerphilly man

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:45, Monday July 16th, 2012.

A Caerphilly man has been told to pay £365.55 after being prosecuted by the council for fly-tipping.

Gavin Teague, 31, of Heol Maerdy, Caerphilly, was admitted illegally dumping waste at Cefn Carnau Lane, Caerphilly, in October 2011. Teague appeared at Abergavenny Magistrates’ Court on July 9.

Cllr David Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services at Caerphilly County Borough Council, said afterwards: “I am pleased that this case has concluded successfully. Fly-tipping is a serious offence, and can destroy our beautiful borough’s countryside. I hope that this prosecution goes some way to showing the small minority of people who commit these crimes, that they will not go unpunished.”

If found guilty of fly-tipping, a person can face a fine of up to £20,000 or even face prison.
