Rail services between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central have returned to normal after a landslide was cleared from the track.
The landslide happened on Friday August 10 between the two stations because of a collapsed retaining wall. Five tonnes of earth fell on the tracks which Network Rail engineers have now cleared.
Following a landslide, Arriva Trains Wales had been operating an emergency timetable.
Alex Sharkey, route infrastructure and maintenance director for Network Rail, and Mike Bagshaw, commercial director for Arriva Trains Wales, have written a letter of thanks to passengers affected whilst the repair work was completed.
In the open letter they said: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to you all for your patience following the landslide which caused significant disruption to rail services in the Cardiff and Valleys area over the past week.
“Network Rail has worked hard over the past 8 days to fully repair the retaining wall that partially collapsed, causing the landslip between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street stations.
“We would like to take this opportunity to also assure you that Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales have done everything in our power to return scheduled services to normal as rapidly as possible and to keep disruption to a minimum in what has been an extremely difficult set of circumstances.”
