Crumlin man handed suspended prison sentence after homophobic attack on woman

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:11, Tuesday August 21st, 2012.

A 22-year-old Crumlin man has been handed a 16-week suspended prison sentence for a homophobic attack on a woman.

Daniel Morgan, of Penybryn, admitted a charge of common assault and another charge under the Public Order Act 1986 for threatening violence.

The charges related to an incident in Oakdale on July 14, 2012.

At Caerphilly Magistrates’ Court on August 15, Morgan was handed a 16-week prison sentence for his threatening behaviour and another four week sentence for the common assault. Both sentences are to run concurrently and were both suspended for 12 months.

Magistrates upped the sentence from 80 hours of community work because of the homophobic nature of the incident. He will be subject to a supervision order for six months and will have to do 120 hours of community work.

Morgan was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and was given a 12 month drinking banning order preventing him from entering the Bungalow Club in Oakdale.

If only he'd made comments on twitter, he'd be doing six months to a year by now.
