Police warn Bargoed motorists after spate of thefts

Gwent Police has issued a warning to motorists in Bargoed after a spate of vehicle thefts.

Over the last month, 19 cars have been targeted, including nine in the Aberbargoed area.

Officers want to remind residents to lock and secure their cars and keep valuables, such as sat navs, out of sight and preferably out of their vehicles all together.

Sergeant Nic Mancino, of Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Whilst vehicle crime is generally low in the area, we have had a rise in the number of vehicles that are being targeted over the last month.

“I would like to urge every single motorist to never leave items on display, even if you are just leaving your vehicle unattended for a short time. Please don’t make it easy for thieves, check and double check your vehicle before you leave it.”

The force has also said it is patrolling the area on a regular basis.

Anyone with information relating to the recent thefts should contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or Gwent Police on 101.
