4,000 job opportunities created by Jobs Growth Wales scheme

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Thursday November 15th, 2012.

Deputy Minister for Skills and Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert has announced that 4,000 job opportunities have been created by the Welsh Government’s employment scheme Jobs Growth Wales.

Jobs Growth Wales is designed to tackle youth unemployment by providing funding to companies for new employees to allow business growth. The aim is for businesses to grow significantly during a six-month period to allow them to take on the paid-for member of staff permanently.

Mr Cuthbert said: “Through Jobs Growth Wales we aim to create and fill 4,000 job opportunities a year for the next three years for young people aged between 16 and 24.

“It’s great news that we’ve created these 4,000 opportunities. We know that so far over 2,000 young people have found employment through Jobs Growth Wales, it’s really important that we now strive to ensure these remaining positions are filled. I also want to see as many of these jobs as possible become permanent positions or apprenticeships for as many participants as possible.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved with Jobs Growth Wales so far. It is a Welsh response to the youth unemployment issue. The Welsh Government’s absolute priority in these tough times is to stand up for the people of Wales, creating jobs and enabling growth. We’re doing just that.”
