Islwyn MP Chris Evans has expressed his outrage over UK Government plans to cut compensation for victims of crime.
Under plans, some 90% of injured violent crime victims awarded payments under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme will have their compensation abolished.
Even those left permanently disabled will see their payments slashed while dependants of murder victims will have to face up to losing both a loved one and compensation.
Speaking after voting against the changes, Mr Evans said: “These cruel and callous cuts will have a real impact on victims of serious violent offences.
“Not only will crime victims suffer physically but they now face suffering financially. Even by this government’s standards – this is a truly callous way to treat some of the most vulnerable people in our society.”
