Health clinics to be held for Cwmcarn High School pupils and parents

A health clinic for pupils of the asbestos-affected Cwmcarn High School has been announced.

Organised by Public Health Wales and Aneurin Bevan Health Board in conjunction with Caerphilly County Borough Council, the clinic is being held to discuss any concerns school pupils and parents may have after Cwmcarn High School was closed because of asbestos.

Letters were posted out on Wednesday to all pupils, parents and guardians of the school, providing information about the session. The clinic will also be attended by environmental and public health specialists and appointments will be available for families to discuss concerns.

The session is being held on Wednesday November 21.

Dr Gill Richardson, Director of Public Health for Aneurin Bevan Health Board, said: “This health concerns clinic will provide students and families with the opportunity to discuss any concerns they may have with public health professionals on a one to one basis.”

Cwmcarn High School was closed last month after airborne asbestos was found by contractors. After investigations, the school buildings where the asbestos is have been closed and pupils are now being taught on Coleg Gwent’s former campus in Ebbw Vale.
