A man convicted of Grievous Bodily Harm has absconded from HMP Prescoed.

Gwent Police is appealing for information to find 22-year-old Leighton Mark Williams who left the open prison on Sunday December 2.

In June 2008 he was given an indeterminate sentence with a minimum of 30 months to be served before consideration for release at Cardiff Crown Court after being convicted of Grievous Bodily Harm.

He is described as white, approximately 5ft 8in tall, of slim build, with short brown hair. He was last known to be wearing a grey t-shirt, grey sweatshirt, blue jeans and grey/blue Adidas trainers.

Williams is known to have links in the Caerphilly area and police say he is not a registered sex offender.

Gwent Police has said it has activated an operational plan to find him.

Members of the public are advised not to approach him but to call police if they have any information regarding his whereabouts on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Update: Gwent Police reported on December 5, 2012, that Williams had been found.
