News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:56, Thursday December 6th, 2012.

A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a police siege ended with officers storming a property in Argoed.

Gwent Police said officers first attended the address at 10.50pm on Wednesday night to make an arrest. When officers arrived a man fired a nail gun. No officers were injured.

Armed officers and regular officers then cordoned off the premises while negotiations took place.

The siege ended at 8.30am on Thursday when police forced entry to the property.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers heard a disturbance and forced entry at the address at approximately 8.30am and discovered the man, aged 47, had sustained an injury to his chest.

“No shots were fired by police.

“Paramedics treated the man and he was taken to hospital. The man was also arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding and affray.

“His condition is described as stable.”
