Police warning after spate of shed and garage break-ins in Bargoed area

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:30, Thursday May 26th, 2011.

Police in Bargoed are reminding residents to check the security of their sheds and garages after a spate of 20 break-ins the Penybryn, Gelligaer and Penpedairheol areas in the last two weeks.

Kate Main, Police Community Support Officer for the Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We ask residents to remain vigilant and check the security that they have in place on their sheds and garages.

“The items stolen range from food and drink to tools and fishing equipment – mostly things that can be sold on quickly and are easy to carry. We suspect that this is happening during the early hours of the morning.

“We want to make sure that residents are taking adequate security steps before they store expensive equipment in their shed or garage. Anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood should report it to Gwent Police as soon as possible.”

If you have any information on the burglaries, contact 101 or the Bargoed Neighbourhood Policing Team on 02920 857 455.

  • Residents can attend the Bargoed Neighbourhood Team Crime Prevention Day at Denman’s Car Park on Saturday June 4 2011 where officers will be on hand in the mobile police station to offer crime prevention advice.
