Community groups looking for funding can apply for a grant of up to £5,000 from the Police Property Act Fund.
Property which comes into the possession of the police in connection with a crime and where the owner cannot be found is sold, with the money being kept in what is known as the Police Property Act Fund. Items which have been seized by the courts from criminals is also sold with the proceeds going to the fund.
Applications to the fund are sought from clubs, organisations or groups who help prevent crime and anti-social behaviour or divert people away from crime.
Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Ian Johnston said: “There are a number of organisations relying on funds from external bodies that have been effective in helping reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
“As Gwent’s first Police and Crime Commissioner I am delighted to be able to offer a limited amount of funding support to the local community.”
Throughout February 2013, application forms and help is available from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner website at www.gwent.pcc.police.uk.

The closing date for applications is February 28. Notification of successful bids will be sent out during March.
Mr Johnston added: “During this time of financial challenges, funding opportunities are being consistently reduced.
“I recognise that, to be successful, a number of worthwhile initiatives will need more than the £500 maximum award previously available. By increasing this amount available to £5,000, I hope to provide some sustainability for these valuable projects”.
