Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly and Risca to hold St David’s Day celebrations

St David’s Day concerts will be taking place place at 12pm in Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly and Risca.

The lunchtime concerts will be held at Bargoed’s Emporium Car Park, Blackwood Asda, Caerphilly’s Twyn Car Park and Risca’s Tredegar Park this Friday.

Visitors to the event can enjoy an afternoon of entertainment with more than 20 local schools involved with singing, folk dancing, street theatre, recitals and brass and orchestral ensembles.

Local community group Stagecoach Theatre Arts will also be in attendance at each venue showcasing their talents.

Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “I would encourage as many people as possible to come together and join us as we celebrate the traditional Welsh culture and heritage on the day of Wales’ patrol saint.”

Each of the lunchtime concerts will conclude with a sing-along of the Welsh National Anthem.

Coinciding with the events on March 1 will be a showcase of successful social enterprises that have been set-up in the county borough. The exhibition will be held at the Visit Caerphilly Centre from 10am to 3pm.

There will also be free entry into Caerphilly Castle on March 1.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is also encouraging children to take part in the St David’s Day Pilgrim Trail which takes place in the four town centres and gives children the chance to win some fantastic prizes whilst exploring the local town centres.
