Off-road bikers targeted in Caerphilly

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Wednesday June 1st, 2011.

Gwent Police targeted illegal off-road bikers during a four day crackdown recently.

Officers handed out two warning notices and spoke to 11 people in total during the operation around the Caerphilly town area.

The operation took place between Thursday May 26 and Sunday May 29.

Sergeant Andy Elias, from the Caerphilly Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The aim of the policing operation was to educate both riders and drivers of these off-road vehicles and deal proactively with any offences committed.

“To support our work we have also been promoting the launch of ‘Back on Track’ this month – where Caerphilly residents are being given the opportunity to have a free mountain bike and accessories, in return for giving up their off-road motorbikes, trikes or quad bikes.

“Residents from Aber Valley, Morgan Jones, Penyrheol or St Martins will be able to take part in the amnesty over a four week period in June.”

To report incidents of illegal off-road riding, call Gwent Police on 101.
