New communtiy fund launched By Caerphilly Council

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Monday May 6th, 2013.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has launched a new fund to help finance community improvement projects.

The Community Improvement Fund forms part of a series of funding schemes being rolled out as part of the council’s work to bring its housing stock up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

The fund will provide up to £5,000 for community based projects to improve the general appearance of their area and to provide better community spaces or activities.

This could mean improving parking or lighting, creating community gardens, planting projects or creating play areas or any other projects groups feel would benefit their neighbourhood and help create prosperous, learning and healthier communities.

Cllr Gerald Jones, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “Community projects led by communities, for communities, have already helped to transform parts of our county borough. This new fund will offer residents the opportunity to achieve even more through helping to finance projects that will add value to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard programme through enhancing the environment and helping to develop the capacity of local residents to become involved and take ownership of projects and activities that will benefit the wider community.”

Groups must show they have consulted the local community in developing their project. New groups will need to have a partner agency who can help administer the fund and support the group and existing groups must have a group bank account.
