News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:00, Tuesday May 14th, 2013.

A European Union-funded project aimed at getting more people into work is holding a skills fair in Blackwood on Thursday May 16.

QWEST, which stands for Quality, Work, Employability, Skills and Training, will be running an Employability, Volunteering and Skills Fair at Blackwood Miners’ Institute from 10am until 2pm.

People attending the fair will be able to meet with training providers and representatives from various employment schemes and get information on training, development and learning new skills.

QWEST, Bridges into Work, Want 2 Work, Get Caerphilly Online, UHOVI, Capital Training, GAVO, Tredegar Community Interest Company, The Parent Network CCB and College@Blackwood/Ystrad Mynach College are just a few of the organisations and initiatives which will be at the fair.

The QWEST project, which is part-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) through the Welsh Government, and led by the University of South Wales, has been developed to tackle economic inactivity and unemployment across the Heads of the Valleys.

Lyn Waddington, Head of QWEST, said: “We are delighted to host the Employability, Volunteering and Skills Fair to promote free training and volunteering opportunities available in the County Borough of Caerphilly to help local people gain access to the labour market by improving their employability prospects and skills.”
