Police warning to be vigilant using Chip and Pin after Morrisons card theft in Caerphilly

Shoppers paying by card are being urged to be extra vigilant after a woman had her card and PIN number stolen.

The police warning comes after a 67-year-old woman was distracted by two men who knew her PIN number and then stole her card.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said the victim had paid for goods at Morrisons in Caerphilly town on July 5. Outside the shop she was approached by two men with Eastern European accents. One held up a map and asked for directions while the other stole the lady’s purse from her car.

It is believed the two men had spied the woman’s PIN number while she was in the store.

One of them is described as wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “We have had quite a few of these incidents in other areas and would like to remind people to be extra vigilant when paying for items using Chip and PIN.”
