RSPCA thanks fire service for bird rescue in Caerphilly town

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 13:00, Tuesday July 23rd, 2013.

RSPCA Cymru has thanked firefighters from Caerphilly for their help in a recent bird rescue.

The animal’s sense of direction went awry as she flew into a window in Windsor Street, Caerphilly town, on Thursday July 18. The wild bird managed to trap herself by getting her head stuck between the open window and seal and slid to the bottom of the frame. Despite several attempts to rescue the wild bird, no other option was available other than to call for help from the fire service.

The creature was freed but had to be put down by a vet because of its injuries.

RSPCA inspector Nicola Johnson said: “We’d really like to thank the fire and rescue officers for their help. They are always unfailingly professional and eager to assist where they can. Even though this story does not have a happy ending, we are grateful to our colleagues for doing all they could to help.”
