Bargoed charity shop targeted by thieves

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 12:00, Thursday January 2nd, 2014.

Volunteers have been left distraught after thieves smashed a charity shop window and stole donated goods.

The Tenovus shop in Hanbury Road in Bargoed was broken into at some point over the festive period.

Sue Hayes, the charity’s retail area manager, said: “At present we have no information on who caused the damage, but items were stolen from the shop window.

“The cost to replace the window will be over £600. It will take the shop about 30 bags of donated stock to raise the money to pay for the damage; this money is being taken away from supporting cancer patients in the community.

Our Bargoed store, the twelfth shop we established, has been a part of the town since 1990; it is currently supported by ten volunteers. The team are upset by the damage caused are appealing to the community to contact the local police if they have any information on the crime.”

Anyone with information can contact Gwent Police on 101 or Crimesoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 36292-13.
