An event at Ystrad Mynach’s New Cottage Dance Centre raised more than £9,000 for a breast cancer charity.

Strictly Top Dancer was organised by mother and daughter team Mandy Weston and Cariann Jones who work for WIZE Virtual Admin.

Mandy was diagnosed with breast cancer when her eldest daughter was just 11 and she subsequently became Patient Representative for Breast Centre Cardiff.

Cariann, 25, said the personal effects of her mother’s cancer added to their efforts and the passion of the event.

The charity, based at Llandough Hospital, will use the money to provide holistic therapies for breast cancer sufferers, such as fitness, reflexology and massage.

The night itself saw 200 people in awe of the dances of eight couples – made up of representatives from local business, partnered with championship dancers.

The couples trained for five months and the eventual winners were surgeon Sumit Goyal and dancer Samantha Howells with their amazing Bollywood routine.

Mandy, 48, said: “The night was phenomenal. There were lots of tears and I was in awe of the support the companies got from friends and family.

“It really is a case that everyone is touched by breast cancer.”

To support the charity visit Strictly Top Dancer’s Just Giving Page.

A DVD of the event will be available soon, with all proceeds going to Breast Centre Cardiff. To order a copy for £7 email cariannjones@wizeconsulting.co.uk.
