Church help for homeless in Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Tuesday February 25th, 2014.

A network of local churches is providing support for rough sleepers in Caerphilly County Borough.

The Caerphilly Churches Night Shelter scheme sees Caerphilly County Borough Council working with seven churches in the Blackwood and Caerphilly area to provide a safe place to stay for those in need.

This year’s scheme runs through to Friday March 28.

The initiative sees each church provide cover for one night a week – offering up to six rough sleepers a warm meal, a safe place of rest and breakfast in the morning before leaving.

Rough sleepers must be referred and cannot arrive unannounced.

For more information call David Francis on 01443 873549, email francd1@caerphilly.gov.uk or contact the Housing Advice Centre on 01443 873552.

People interested in volunteering at one of the churches, contact Reverend Sue Phillips, Church Coordinator on 07817 238608.
