A Caerphilly man has been sentenced to 13 months in prison for threatening shop staff with a knife after stealing a bottle of perfume.
On September 14 last year, Gareth Harley, 38, stole a designer perfume from the Caerphilly branch of B&M Bargains on Bedwas Road. When confronted by shop staff, he took out a kitchen knife and threatened them.
Harely was charged with threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place and theft and was sentenced at Newport Crown Court on February 28.
The officer in charge of the case, PC James Bramwell said: “The use of a knife and the threatening behaviour that Gareth Harley displayed would have been a very traumatic experience for the staff involved.
“The length of sentence for this sort of crime reflects the seriousness of the offence and will hopefully bring some comfort to the victims.”
