A Millbrook Care Home, Pontllanfraith, resident celebrated her 100th birthday on June 9.
May Wilkins was visited by Islwyn MP Chris Evans and the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, Cllr David Carter.
She also received a birthday card from The Queen and was presented with a bunch of flowers and a card from Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith, thanks to ambassador Linda Korczynski.
Mrs Wilkins was born in Swansea and previously lived in Newport and has May has a son, Stephen and two grand-daughters, Helen and Sarah.
During World War II she worked for the Red Cross at St Woolos Hospital, and later went on to run a butcher shop with her husband Ken on Blackwood High Street, while living in Llanbradach.
Following her husband’s death she moved to Yeovil to be closer to her family, where she raised money for Oxfam and St Margaret’s Hospice through knitting and sewing.
May continues to knit at the care home.
