Plans to charge for the dumping of household waste in Caerphilly Council-run tips have been postponed.
A petition was launched after it was revealed residents disposing of domestic rubbish in vans and trailers at Household Waste Recycling Centres would be charged up to £70 for a one off permit.
The charges were due to begin today, July 1, but a council spokesman has confirmed further consideration is needed.
The planned charges, starting at £35, led to claims by residents they would result in increased fly-tipping across the county borough.
A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “The new charges were due to come into force today but we need to give further consideration to a few operational issues before the scheme can be implemented.
“Our existing policy remains in place while these issues are discussed in more detail.”
well maybe if caerphilly borough council was to give caerphilly borough’s tennents Waste Recycling bags/food waste bags etc for free like Cardiff and pontypridd do, then maybe you would half the problem of most .
The charges seemed a little excessive, maybe a couple of quid for everybody would be okay if it helped to run them effectively, one thing that does surprise me is that nobody actually checks where you are from when you use one of the waste sites in Caerphilly, I always had to show my council tax book and i.d, to use the waste sites where I lived, anybody can use the Caerphilly sites regardless of where they live.
Sorry Paul; I pay ` a couple of quid` already in my rates, why should it be OK to heap more financial demands on those already paying for the service?????
Why is it CCBC take the option of raising taxes and charges to create more income instead of cutting wastage?
Dean; Because it does not involve Cabinet Members ” offending” the senior officers in the departments for which they have responsibility by instructing them to `cut the fat`. Even when they try to instruct officers to do as they are told, they are baffled with confusing speak and, so that they don`t show their lack of knowledge and commitment to making such cuts they agree to the alternative which is `raise more money from the already `squeezed until they squeak` ratepayers, ” too Simples” !!!!
Ditch the building of the 6.9 million cinema in bargoed for odeon on the taxpayers, get picturedrome to buy old hanbury for a cinema for the area (picturedrome are cheaper tickets than odeon) then the council can stop closing public toilets, stop getting rid of community cafes which are a lifeline for many people and stop planning to charge for people to park in places like penyfan pond and for dumping rubbish at the council tip.
It’s so obvious that these planned charges will inevitably lead to a large increase in fly tipping coupled with the added expense of clearing it up one wonders if the persons who dreamt it up have any grasp of reality .
I expect it’s simply a cynical way of shifting cost and expense from one balance sheet to another.
The back of my house faces a river valley, and even while the tip is free, people constantly dump their belongings outside our home. These kinds of charges are far too prohibitive and we’ll just lead to more fly tipping.
How else would the councillor’s (CROOK’S) get the fantastic salary’s
