Residents have been warned over a new telephone scam which offers people a magazine subscription.
Callers entice their targets to disclose their financial details with an offer of a new subscription for just £1.
Trading Standards were made aware of the scam by a resident who received such a call.
She was cold called and asked whether she was over 80 years of age and if she lived alone.
The resident recognised this as a scam and refused to give out any details, and contacted Trading Standards to report it.
Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services commented, “The advice from our Trading Standards team is to never disclose bank details to anyone, over the phone or otherwise, unless you are absolutely certain that you are dealing with a reputable company.”
