A group of Brownies embraced the community spirit with two litter-picking sessions as part of Tidy Wales Week.

As part of the event that ran from September 15 to 21, Caerphilly Tidy Towns Team has been working with schools and community groups to highlight the issue of littering and fly-tipping.

Caerphilly Brownies and Girl Guides collected everything from empty takeaway containers to prams and children’s toys, collecting over eight bags of rubbish in just half an hour.

A number of individuals are also taking part, including Liz Neumann-Cottrell who will clean up the countryside around Trethomas and James Bramwell who is undertaking clean-up activities at Castle View Lake.

Cllr David Poole, the cabinet member responsible for the Community, said: “It’s brilliant that so many people are taking pride in their local communities. All generations are coming together to spread the message that littering, graffiti and fly-tipping are all unacceptable.”
