Wayne David MP joins Caerphilly Council’s Cleansing Team

News | | Published: 17:00, Wednesday October 22nd, 2014.

He may earn £67,000 a year and usually sits on a plush green seat in the House of Commons, but MP Wayne David swapped his suit and briefcase for work gloves in the fight against litter.

The MP for Caerphilly joined the council’s Cleansing Team around Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen on Friday October 10, collecting litter, emptying dog waste bins and addressing fly-tipping issues.

He said: “I joined the Cleansing Team to find out exactly what they do and to experience, in a small way, what the job entails.

“It’s been a tough morning and I have to say that I’ve been enormously impressed with the hard work they do and the dedication they have got for public service.

“There are so many aspects to this job. It’s not just litter picking but it’s also dealing with dog fouling, which isn’t pleasant, fly-tipping and generally improving the environment. People should be really appreciative of the efforts the Cleansing Team make.”
