Caerphilly County Borough Council warning over council tax email scam

Residents have been told to be on their guard against a new email scam currently doing the rounds.

Caerphilly County Borough Council have been contacted by several people who have been targeted by the bogus email, which claims they owe unpaid council tax.

The email, from the address council@borough.com, asks residents to click on an internet link and provide their bank details.

The council has said it would never send out an email with an automatic link to make payment, and residents receiving this email are asked to report it to Caerphilly Trading Standards.

Cllr David Poole, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, thanked residents for reporting the scam and said: “These emails are in no way associated with this council. To avoid being duped by this type of fraudulent activity always remember the golden rule – never give bank or personal details to anyone you do not know or trust.”

To report an issue to Caerphilly Trading Standards Service contact 01495 235291 or email tradingstandards@caerphilly.gov.uk.

Aren’t all of the council tax paying residents of Caerphilly being scammed with year on year inflation bursting council tax increases.

I agree, the Town council voted this week not to increase the precept. I think it is several years since the Town Council tax has been increased. I do not believe that there is any reason to increase tax this year, waste and the scandalous levels of senior officr pay need to be addressed before any increases are considered.
