A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a burglary in which a 68-year-old woman was threatened.

The break-in happened at a house on Dan y Graig Road, Risca, at around 8.30pm on January 22.

The incident sparked a man hunt complete with a helicopter and police dogs.

Gwent Police said a man made off with cash and other items and the woman was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport as a precaution.

The man hunt saw five people arrested.

Daniel Rowlands, 28, of Holly Road, Risca, has been charged with robbery and possession of a knuckle duster. He appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court on Saturday January 24 and was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear at Newport Crown Court on February 12.

A 42-year-old man, a 27-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were also all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and bailed pending further enquiries.

Another 26-year-old man wanted by police on an outstanding warrant was also arrested and remanded to appear before the courts.
