Gwent Police warn Ystrad Mynach residents as green-fingered thieves target gardens

News | | Published: 13:00, Tuesday March 10th, 2015.

Thieves have stolen plants from four gardens in Ystrad Mynach, leading to calls for residents to be vigilant.

Gwent Police are encouraging residents to keep an eye on their gardens after four were targeted in the week beginning March 2, with plants stolen on all occasions.

Gardens have been targeted in Cwm Calon, Bedwlwyn Road and Park Road.

PC Claire Young, Ystrad Mynach Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer, said: “Gardens can provide rich pickings for opportunist thieves especially as many plants are expensive and can, in most cases be easily removed.

“The thefts this week have a combined value of over £200 and it’s not just the plants that can attract thieves, pots, statues and ornaments may also be tempting.

“I want to remind residents to be extra vigilant. The majority of thefts took place overnight but in one case the theft was during day time hours. Please report any suspicious activity immediately on 101.”
