Consultation open into Caerphilly Council poverty plan

News | | Published: 12:17, Wednesday March 11th, 2015.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is developing a new anti-poverty strategy in a bid to improve the lives of the county borough’s most disadvantaged residents.

A four week consultation opened on February 23 and the document can be viewed on the council’s website or a copy can be obtained by calling 01443 864741.

The council’s Anti-Poverty Champion, Cllr Gerald Jones, said: “The council is committed to doing everything it can to tackle poverty and the development of this new strategy will help ensure all the necessary resources are best targeted to achieve this goal in the future. I would encourage as many local people as possible to give us their view on this issue.”

And the money they spend on this anti-poverty strategy is costing how much and being funded from where exactly? Am I the only one that finds it ironic?

      It is ironic MB.

Ceate and sustain more jobs in the Council, whilst, having failed to make any advancement over at least the past five years in improving the position, which gives Caerphilly the unenviable title of the Capital town of most poverty in the whole of the UK, I would like to know, WHAT`S NEW IN RESPECT TO WHAT THE CAERPHILY COUNCIL WILL DO TO ENSURE THE TOWN GOES DOWN THE POVERTY TABLE NEXT YEAR? time will tell.

There are many simple measures the Council can and should take to tackle pockets of poverty in Caerphilly and inprove the lot of poverty stricken Children in particular, will they do so, I doubt it, either becuse they do not have the will to do so?, or they do not have the experience and professionalism to do it, let them list in simple terms each measure they intend to take this year that they have not taken before.

It is not rocket science what has to be done.

Trefor, I’d like to hear more on what you think should be done by our Council. The poverty here is chronic and in some ways is sadder than the poverty I saw when working in a University in a disadvantaged African American area.
