Thieves are targeting cars on the Castle View housing estate in Caerphilly, it has been claimed.
Caerphilly Observer has been contacted by a concerned resident claiming that around five cars were targeted in Ware Road.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said a vehicle had been broken into at 3.15am on Monday March 23.
She said: “It was also reported a person was seen cycling with a bag up the lane. It was reported to us at about 3.15 this morning. If anyone has information they are asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log number 26 23/3/15.”
A number of residents in the town have installed CCTV to cover their homes and property.
Residents have said how surprised they were with the amount of activity, during the early ours being captured on their cameras.
Recently,The Town Centre residents Association asked the Caerphilly Council to consider either, extending the CCTV covering the closed shops, and, pubs
in the town into the areas of the residential streets where, people have been assaulted, bins have been set alight, properties damaged, cars
damaged, and residents threatened and intimidated.
Or, new dedicated CCTV be located in the residential streets.
However,within 20 minutes of the residents association request for Council
consideration of these problems in the residential streets, an officer
of the Council responded by saying that would not happen.
It is an alarming fact that an officer of the Council refused to put the
Residents Request to the people we elect to represent us, i.e. The
Council.
This however is not the end of the matter, and to top it all, I have today established that the Caerphilly County Borough Council are intending to use our CCTV cameras to enforce parking restrictions, BUT NOT FOR THE BENEFIT OF RESIDENTS OF THE TOWN.
It makes one wonder what council operated CCTV is actually for. Enforcement of traffic orders is entirely a police function in Caerffili, so why is the council proposing to use cameras to monitor parking? Also how is it that an officer of the council can dismiss, out of hand, a request from residents for CCTV to be used to help safeguard them from crime? Council officers are employed to administer and advise; decision making is the realm of elected councillors.

I may be wrong here, but rarely do I see any police presence on Castle View. The only time you see the Police is buying food in Tesco! Hopefully if they are aware of these crimes a regular drive through in early hours maybe of benefit.
