British Legion to offer welfare advice sessions to veterans in Bargoed

News | | Published: 10:00, Wednesday April 8th, 2015.

The Royal British Legion, with support from Caerphilly County Borough Council, has launched new welfare drop-in services in Bargoed to offer advice and support to the armed forces community.

The sessions at Bargoed Library will be run by the British Legion’s Advice and Information Officer, Adrian Leslie.

Serving personnel, veterans and their dependants can access the services that include offering advice on debt management and helping people to apply for social housing.

Mr Leslie will also signpost people to other welfare services and can discuss membership with those wanting to join the British Legion.

Mr Leslie said: “My welfare sessions are part of the Legion’s mission to bring our services closer to those who need it most.

“I’ll be available for face-to-face meetings to discuss any issues, so please do take the opportunity to call in if you need advice on welfare, housing support, managing personal finances plus much more.”

Caerphilly County Borough’s Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Alan Higgs said: “We are delighted to be working alongside our colleagues at the Royal British Legion to assist in delivering these important information sessions to members of the community.

“I would encourage anyone, whether serving or former armed forces personnel or indeed their families, to come along to these sessions to find out more about the vital services that the Royal British Legion provides or can signpost people to in our area.”

The sessions will run between 10am and 2pm on April 23 and May 21.
