SWEET SUPPORT: £300 was donated to the ASD family group

A Blackwood councillor has raised £300 for an autism organisation by running a tuck shop in work.

Allan Rees presented the money to the ASD family group that meets at 6.30pm every Friday at Plasmawr Community Centre in Blackwood.

Staff at Newport Council’s Child Protection Team bought crisps and chocolate and put their money into an honesty box at half the price of the building’s vending machine.

Cllr Rees has made a personal pledge to raise more than £2,000 for the charities and small organisations in his ward and will now raise £100 for the local Rainbows and Brownies group.

He said: “In this time of austerity small organisations are suffering and I’m keen to keep them going in my ward. They contribute so much to the people who live here.”

If you or your child would like to attend the group feel free to just drop in or contact Steph on 07815 791784 or Lisa on 07951 485648.
