Girl, 15, wounded after being attacked with knife at Bedwas High School

A 15-year-old girl has been arrested after a pupil’s cheek was cut with a knife while at Bedwas High School.

Police were called to the school this morning after reports that a 15-year-old pupil had been attacked with a knife.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “We attended Bedwas High School this morning at 11.05am. We received a report of an incident during which a 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

“A 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody.

“A knife has been recovered and police officers are working closely with the school to establish the circumstances of the incident, which is believed to be an isolated incident and does not involve any other pupils.”

The spokeswoman added the girl suffered a cut to the cheek.

A spokesperson on behalf of Caerphilly County Borough Council and Bedwas High School said: “We can confirm an isolated incident took place at Bedwas High School earlier today, which was swiftly dealt with by staff and Gwent Police.

“Support is in place for both pupils and staff and we would like to assure parents that all appropriate steps were taken to respond effectively to the situation. We are now helping the police with their enquiries.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.05am this morning, Wednesday April 29, to an incident at Bedwas Comprehensive School in Caerphilly. We sent a rapid response car and an emergency ambulance to the scene, and a teenage girl was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital.”
