Caerphilly Council film warns of the dangers of loan sharks

News | | Published: 16:21, Wednesday May 6th, 2015.

Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Wales Illegal Money Lending Unit have jointly produced a film warning of the dangers of loan sharks.

The film features actors from the Break a Leg Amateur Dramatics Society and portrays real life stories of Caerphilly residents who have fallen victim to illegal money lending from loan sharks.

The film, which was funded by the proceeds of crime, aims to highlight the support that is available to victims and is being used in the training of council staff.

Cabinet Member for Social Services, Cllr Robin Woodyatt, said: “The DVD is a great resource and aims to show residents that the money they are borrowing is in fact from an illegal lender. It also raises awareness for frontline staff, as they are best placed to identify victims.

“We will not tolerate illegal money lending in Caerphilly and will be doing all we can in partnership with the Illegal Money Lending Unit to take action against these individuals.”
