Gwent Police has appointed a new Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) on May 7.
Julian Williams will take over from ACC Lorraine Bottomley when she retires at the end of this month.

Gwent Police Chief Constable Jeff Farrar said: “Julian is a highly skilled officer with over 25 years experience all with South Wales Police. He joined us in June 2014 in a temporary capacity and has made a significant impact during his time here.

“I was privileged to have such a high calibre candidate applying for the role and I am sure that he will hit the ground running at such an important time for the force.”

Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Ian Johnston, said: “I would like to extend my congratulations to ACC Julian Williams on his success. He is an excellent candidate who brings with him a wealth of experience.

“I could not be more pleased that we have been able to secure the services of someone of his calibre.

“In Julian, I believe we have found the right person for the job and I am confident he will serve the people of Gwent with distinction.”

ACC Williams said: “I am delighted to be appointed as Assistant Chief Constable for Gwent Police.

“I look forward to working with colleagues to implement the important changes we need to make operationally to deliver the best service for the people of Gwent.

“I feel very privileged to be part of the chief officer team and I look forward to being part of such a progressive force.”
