A Bargoed cook has been voted the UK’s top school chef at a national final on May 20.
St Gwladys Primary School chef Kate Davies was crowned LACA School Chef of the Year 2015 for her main course of ‘spice-street’ fire-cracker chicken curry platter, comprising fire-cracker chicken curry, cauli-pilau rice, aloo dal paratha, roasted Indian potatoes and a trio of chutneys.
She followed this with a dessert of mango ‘lassi’ style yoghurt pot with ‘coco’ biscuits – a combination of mango and yoghurt with lime served with chocolate and coconut biscuits.
Ms Davies said: “With the skill among this year’s finalists being so high, I felt it was a huge achievement in itself to compete with such a talented group of people.
“All of this just goes to prove what a good job school chefs do – day in, day out – up and down the country to provide tasty, nutritious meals for millions of children.”
