Caerphilly County Borough council are encouraging potential foster carers to help change a life as part of Foster Care Fortnight that runs from June 1 to 15.
Fostering is the chance to make an important difference to a child’s life.
All types of families from all kinds of backgrounds can foster a child or group of children. The council is currently looking for more foster carers for children of all ages.
They will be holding events under the theme ‘Make a Connection’ with family activities and a celebration of foster care.
The events run from 5.30pm to 7pm at Risca Youth Centre on Brookland Road on June 4 and Llancaiach Fawr, near Nelson on June 11.
Foster carer Janine said: “Being a foster carer is the most rewarding job I’ve had. I am in awe of every child that has walked into my house; their ability to adapt and begin to grow is unbelievable.
“Each child brings their challenges and rewards, and when you accept them and their experiences, the rewards both for them and you are so heart-warming.”
Adam, who previously received foster care through Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “Foster carers do have a hard job – they’re giving a child they’ve never met a home and a family.
“The children have often come from a difficult situation, not knowing what could happen or how long they’ll be there, but foster carers work so hard to support that child and look after them, becoming a temporary parent, a helpful ear and a friend.
“They then use all their time to help that child to become someone better – someone they may not have become otherwise.”
Councillor Robin Woodyatt, cabinet member for social services said: “Foster carers can and do make a tremendous difference to the lives of children and young people in their care.
“I would encourage anyone who is considering becoming a foster carer to get in touch and find out more about how they can change a child’s life – and enrich their own.”
