Tonne of fly-tipped waste removed from Abertridwr

News | | Published: 11:14, Friday June 12th, 2015.

Almost a tonne of rubbish and waste was removed from a lane in Abertridwr by council workers recently.

Despite the efforts of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cleansing team, yet more fly-tipped waste is due to be taken away from the back lane of Hendre Road.

Fed-up residents contacted the council to complain about the state of the land.

Glass, bottles, black bags filled with rubbish and a sofa was removed.

The Nant Ilan river which runs adjacent to the lane, was also packed with discarded items including a number of brown recycling bins, old clothes and food containers.

After receiving the reports from residents of illegal fly-tipping, a member of the council’s Environmental Health team visited the area to investigate.

A number of properties had large black refuse bags leaning against the back walls of their gardens.

The properties were issued with cards to inform them that rubbish could not be left in this manner, as it was illegal.

The council’s cleansing team were also joined by a very generous local volunteer, who gave up her time to help rid the area of rubbish.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “Fly-tipping will not be tolerated in Caerphilly as it depletes the natural beauty of the whole borough.

“The area has now been restored to its proper state and I hope that it will remain this way in the future.
“A small minority of individuals who discard their rubbish in this manner ruin the local area for the vast majority of us who take pride in our community.

“Well done to the cleansing team who attended.”

• Caerphilly County Borough Council’s annual Big Spring Clean campaign this year collected almost 40 tonnes of rubbish with many residents and volunteers giving up their free time to clear areas affected by litter and fly-tipping.

If I ever see someone doing this I will report them and so should everybody else.
