Caerphilly Observer nominated for Wales Media Award

News | | Published: 11:00, Thursday January 21st, 2016.

Caerphilly Observer has been shortlisted for Independent Community News Service of the Year in the 2016 Wales Media Awards.

The awards ceremony takes place on Friday, March 4, at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.

Caerphilly Observer won the award last year, when it was known as Community Outlet of the Year, and is hoping to repeat its success.

This year, the newspaper is up against the Aberystwyth EGO and the MyWelshpool and MyNewtown websites.

Richard Gurner, Publisher and Editor of Caerphilly Observer, said: “We are so excited to be nominated again for this prestigious award.

“Winning last year is something we are rightly proud of and it was a career highlight for me personally. I can only hope that we repeat that success.

“That said, just being nominated is an achievement in itself and I’m delighted that we made the shortlist in a very tough category, which represents the best of independent publishing in Wales.”

The awards celebrate and promote great journalism in Wales – journalism with a Welsh angle, produced by journalists, photographers and camera operators working in Wales. The ceremony will be hosted by broadcaster Huw Edwards at a gala black tie evening.

They are organised by Spencer David with the support of a range of sponsors and partners on behalf of the Journalists’ Charity in Wales.
