A hay lorry caught fire on the M4 westbound carriageway just after the Second Severn Crossing tolls.
Gwent Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service were all called at 12.50pm this afternoon.
No person has been injured.
The motorway was closed in both directions on safety grounds while traffic was diverted along the first Severn Crossing.
