Charities based in Caerphilly County Borough are being urged to apply for potential funding of £1,000.

Caerphilly Observer has teamed up with Vodafone to invite charities to apply for the Vodafone Community Connection Award.

Vodafone, which has a store in Caerphilly town centre, has set-up its Community Connection Award as a way of “giving something back”.

Richard Gurner, Publisher and Editor of Caerphilly Observer, said: “This is a great way for a local charity to access some much-needed funds. We’ve already had applications from a wide variety of organisations, but we want more.

“Applications can come from church groups, Scout troops, community centres – the more the better.”

Charities wanting to apply need to meet the following criteria:

  • It should be a local charity that makes a significant impact on the local community.
  • It cannot be a personal or individual plight, nor a government funded organisation.
  • The award must also be for a specific project or purpose, rather than just to cover operating costs.
  • The award must be stand-alone rather than form any part of a larger contribution or bigger appeal.
  • Nominees must have a registered charity number and be based in Caerphilly County Borough.

To nominate a charity please email news@caerphilly.observer with ‘Vodafone Community Connection Award’ as the subject line.

Explain what the money would be used for and why the charity deserves to be chosen.

Please include your name, address and a daytime contact number. Nominations must be received by March 4, 2016.

The winner, who will be chosen by a judging panel, will be announced shortly after the closing date. The winning charity and nominator will be required to participate in publicity.
