The firefighters behind the Blazing To Serbia project were invited to a special reception in Belgrade on Thursday, March 17, where they were greeted by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Caerphilly Station Commander Steve Logan, Caerphilly Watch Manager Phil Logan, and Simon Harris, Watch Manager at South Wales Fire and Rescue headquarters were invited to attend by the British Embassy in Belgrade, with whom the project has dealt with on several occasions.
The Blazing To Serbia project helps developing fire brigades in Serbia gain access to more modern firefighting equipment by donating old or retired equipment from South Wales.
A total of 23 fire engines have been donated to date.
The reception was held at the House of the National Assembly of Serbia.
Station Commander Steve Logan said: “The Prince of Wales was very complimentary about our project. I think what we do struck a chord with him, considering his environmental background. He noticed our accents straight away, and we even had a joke about the rugby result.”
The Royal couple were touring the Western Balkans, which included stops at Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia.
