A Caerphilly County Borough project run by an environmental charity has been handed a top award.

Groundwork Wales’ Green Doctor has been named winner of the national Community Action Award.

The awards, run by fuel poverty charity National Energy Action (NEA) and British Gas, recognises efforts to improve energy use in homes.

Residents helped by Groundwork Wales’ Green Doctor scheme include the elderly, families coping with disability, low-income families and those living with chronic health conditions.

As part of its award, the project has won a £1,500 grant from NEA.

Clare Sutton, from the Green Doctor programme, said: “Winning the NEA Community Action Award is a great achievement for the Green Doctor and Groundwork Wales.

“The money received will enable us to further promote the work of our Green Doctors to the deprived communities that we serve.”

Is Green Doctor a lottery funded project? These things need to be made clear when reporting, Groundwork Wales haven’t done this for nothing, they have received money given to them to carry out this project, and they’ve only done this project because they have been given money to do it and they’ve probably been given more money to do it than the residents have saved on their fuel bills, if this is lottery money funded then this should be made clear as the lottery need to be given credit, there are many schemes and projects funded by lottery money that go unreported.
