A street overgrown by weeds in Caerphilly town has been cleared after a councillor raised the issue.
Cllr Phil Bevan, who represents the Morgan Jones ward for Plaid Cymru, called for action to clear the weeds on pavements alongside Pontygwindy Road – one of the main roads in and out of the town.
He said: “In all my many years as a councillor, I can never recall such a large amount of weeds left to grow along pavements.
“I wonder whether the failure to treat pavements is as a result of spending cuts.
“I’m all for a green environment but not weeds growing on pavements.
“It just gives an impression of neglect and should not be happening.”
Cllr Bevan contacted the highways department to report the weeds growth and they have since been cleared.
A Caerphilly County Borough Council spokesman said: “The council undertakes a programme of weed treatment across the whole county borough including all main roads, footways, car parks and rear lanes etc.
“We are required to cover a large geographical area and we do our best to keep on top of the situation.
“We will target this particular area as a priority.”

lanes etc.” He is entirely correct, they do and my street has been cleared of weeds in recent weeks.
Sometimes, because of weather, lack of personnel or any one of half a dozen other reasons a street is left out of the programme. Then a councillor raises this with Highways. I must have done this ten times in five years as a town councillor but never got my picture in the Observer. Phil must be more photogenic than I am as this is not news but normal council work.

I find this hard to believe my mother lives in Senghenydd commercial Street the weeds on that Street are so bad the back lane is just as bad iv repeated a report to the council but nothing image been done should have a councillor living in Senghenydd probably things will be done.
The Aber valley includes Senghenydd Mr. Jones. There are, I beleive, three Plaid Cymru councillors voted in by the electorate. If asked I’m sure they will sort things out. if not vote them out next time.
