A new no-cold-calling zone has been introduced in Pontymister, near Risca.

Tan-y-Bryn is the latest area to be covered by such a zone which prohibits doorstep sellers from bothering residents.

More than 50 no cold calling zones have been introduced since 2008 by Caerphilly County Borough Council with the help of Gwent Police.

These are primarily in areas of Caerphilly County Borough where there has been a history or doorstep crime or where there are more vulnerable residents.

Cllr Eluned Stenner, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Public Protection, said: “Residents have the right to feel safe and secure in their homes, and No Cold Calling Zones are about helping people feel even safer in their communities by giving them the assurance that steps are being taken to discourage doorstep crime in their local area.

“They also send out a clear signal to those who may potentially prey on more vulnerable members of the community that they are not welcome in the area.”
