A man armed with a metal pole hit a post office cashier over the head and stole more than £900 in cash in an early morning raid in Crumlin.
Police are appealing for information following the robbery which happened just before 7.50am on Saturday, September 9, at the post office store on Crumlin Square in Crumlin.
The robber is described by Gwent Police as white, approximately 25-years-old with olive skin. He was wearing a long khaki coloured coat, with a white or light coloured motif on the upper left sleeve and fur around the hood which was up over his head.
He was also wearing dark sunglasses and a dark bandanna covering the lower part of his face. The man was carrying a light blue rucksack with a strap around the shoulder, with a white motif on the front, possibly a Nike tick.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery, or has any information, can call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 114 9/9/17 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The post office staff member was later taken to hospital with a swelling on the top of their head.
This proves that Gwent constabulary needs to stop wasting on pretend police station and pretend police officers. We need constables on the beat and we need them now.
I agree, this was a particularly nasty robbery. By coincidence I was camping in Trinant, close by, and was awakened by a police helicopter. Let’s hope they catch the robber soon as apart from being a thief he is dangerous.
Gwent constabulary seem to be more reactive rather proactive at the moment. When will they learn that this won’t work, we will slowly go back to communities getting a malicer together to get these offnders
We need a proper and effective police presence and we need it now to deter and prevent the increase in crime – and it has to be Police Officers not Community Officers or Council Wardens.
I see in the South Wales Argus today that Gwent Police are in talks with the councils to hand over parking enforcement from 2019.
It would be interesting if the Police could give a definitive list of what they actually deal with now !
With no visible presence in our communities and handing over parking to councils its no wonder the Government have reduced the number of Police !!!
I would like to know what the police actually deal with nowadays, it’s no wonder they only have 1% pay rise, they do not deserve any further increase. As for the council dealing with parking, I would like to see them on the streets, it’s has if they have gone into hiding along with the police. When will these organisations learn you can’t deal, with problems from an office
