Blackwood-based Community Group Libanus Lifestyle helped raise £330 for Tenovus Cancercare by hosting a fashion show.
The evening, held on October 27, attracted 60 guests and was organised by the Blackwood Friends of Tenovus Cancercare and Bon Marche’s Blackwood store.
Volunteers from Libanus Lifestyle served guests a glass of prosecco on arrival and held a raffle.
Blackwood councillor Nigel Dix welcomed everyone and gave an introduction of what Libanus Lifestyle, based at Libanus Chapel, had achieved and its plans to create a community café and refurbish the building’s kitchen.
Karen James, Managing Director of the not-for-profit company, said: “This was the first fundraising event we have held here for Tenovus and we intend to do more of these.
“It’s great that so many in the community supported us and now they know we are here hopefully we will get more people to attend future events.”
Cllr Dix said: “Libanus Lifestyle is proving to be a huge success. At the event residents were given an opportunity to come along to the new centre to see and experience the facilities that are on offer at the centre.
“With council cuts and shrinking budgets, I believe that Libanus Lifestyle Centre has an important role to play in helping to deliver services to residents.
“Currently they provide complementary therapies, mindfulness and relaxation teaching, fitness and exercise sessions as well as room hire for meetings, functions and parties.
“Since the closure of Cancercareline in Blackwood I have worked closely with Karen from the Lifestyle Centre and her team to bring the Tenovus Cancer Care charity into our community.
“I feel sure that this partnership will go from strength to strength and we will see more cancer related services being provided at the centre.”
