The next episode of Doctor Who will showcase one of Caerphilly County Borough’s best known sites.

The episode, called ‘The Witchfinders,’ was filmed at Llancaiach Fawr and will air on BBC One Wales at 6.30pm on Sunday.

Actress Jodie Whittaker and The Chase host Bradley Walsh, among others, filmed at the manor in March 2018.

Filming at Llancaiach Fawr took place in March 2018

Filming at the 17th century manor was delayed due to snow, but snow ploughs were brought in to clear the access ways while Llancaiach Fawr staff cleared the pathways around the building.

Staff members were delighted when Ms Whittaker stopped to have photos taken with them, while Mr Walsh happily chatted with staff and visitors between takes.

The eighth episode of the current series, The Witchfinders stars Hollywood actor Alan Cumming as King James I of England. The Stuart King, who was also King of Scotland, reigned from 1603 to 1625.

Diane Walker, General Manager of Llancaiach Fawr Manor said: “It is always a pleasure to have the Doctor Who cast and crew at Llancaiach Fawr and to be part of a show that is filmed in South Wales and seen by Doctor Who fans around the world.”

She added: “The Heritage Lottery Fund and Cadw grant we received between 2014 and 2017 to make the interiors more accurate as a setting for live historical interpretation has led to a lot more filming on site. We are delighted that the programme promotes the manor to many more people in the UK and worldwide.”

Doctor Who filming was initially disrupted by poor weather
