A charity day at Llanbradach Bowls Club has raised £1,330 for Prostate Cancer UK.

The event was held on Sunday, July 14 and included a 16-team bowls tournament.

There was also be a barbecue and a raffle, with prizes such as wine, whiskey and bowling balls being won.

Llanbradach Bowls Club secretary Bob Cantelo, who helped organise the event, said: “We were hoping to raise up to £1,000, so we did much better than our expectations.”

The club chose to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK because the treasurer, Keith Jones, was diagnosed with the condition about a year ago.

Mr Cantelo added: “I want to thank everyone for turning up and supporting a good cause. It was a really good day and everyone enjoyed it.

“We still still have a few more donations set to come in.”

The bowls competition was won by Absolute Grass – a team comprised of the bowls club’s green-keepers.

Mr Cantelo said: “I played a couple of matches myself – I didn’t win but there we are.

“We’ll look at running something like this again next year. We’re thankful for the support of the club and the community for helping us raise so much money.

“We’re also grateful to businesses such as the Wingfield Hotel, Savera Cafe and Aero Bowls for donating raffle prizes.”
